Last night I was sitting in my office chair, stepped on my daughter's Dr. Seuss book as I stood up, slipped, and landed on my wrist. After much discussion with my husband and daughter, who were more upset than I was, we decided I should go to the ER. My husband and I spent 4 hours waiting in the swine flu infested waiting area, before they finally took x-rays and I was seen by a doctor. The x-rays didn't show a break, but apparently hairline fractures sometimes don't show up in x-rays. I was given a splint, and told if it doesn't get better it's probably a hairline fracture, in which case I should see an orthopedist. When I woke up this morning it hurt worse than last night, so I went to my family physician. He gave me some pain medication and said since it is my left hand (and I'm left-handed), if it still hurts in a couple of days I should go to an orthopedist he recommended. At sometime they will take another x-ray to see if the bone appears to be mending. Then we will know it is indeed a hairline fracture. I am hoping that it isn't a fracture and heals soon! I need to start working on winter classes:(
