Ustream Recording & Snow Angel Elf

Hi Everyone!  I just wanted to let you all know that the card class on Ustream recorded last night, despite several technical difficulties.  So, if you have not started your kit yet, there is a recording.  However, because of the glitches with Ustream our class was broken up into several videos.  I will be working on editing the videos into two manageable videos, and hope to have them posted here on the blog tonight or tomorrow.  In the meantime, the recordings are available on my Ustream channel (click here to go to Ustream) under videos.  I am sorry for any inconvenience, and appreciate everyone’s patience last night while we were having issues.  I expect the next Usteam to go much smoother. Despite the streaming issues, I had a wonderful time teaching, and chatting!!!!

Also, I wanted to let you know what our naughty Elf on the Shelf, Jingles, was up to last night while we were asleep.  Apparently, she likes sugar.  I think she is trying to tell us she is a sweet little angel?  I am not buying it!

Our Elf on the Shelf has come home! Yay, I think… & Ustream is tonight!

Last year we were so happy to be adopted by an elf we named Jingles.  She came to us on Thanksgiving.  Every morning it was a fun game to see where Jingles was hiding.  No one was allowed to touch her, or she would leave and return to the North Pole.  If anyone got too close, we noticed she moved higher, but as she became more comfortable with us she would turn up in high traffic areas like the kitchen table, coffee table, kitchen counter top, on the lamp, etc.  One morning she was even perched atop the TV where the kids play video games.  Of course, we were very sad to see her go on Christmas.  We made her cookies the night before, and bid her farewell in hopes of seeing her next year.  There were some tears shed, but we knew she would return to us.

Just as we hoped, Jingles came back on Thanksgiving!!  Oh the excitement at our house was overwhelming!  The kids were running around screaming, “Jingles is home!”  To our delight, our elf enjoyed her stay, we were good hosts last year, so she had come home to us. We found her on our kitchen table, and she had brought a gift.  She was sitting by little, tiny mini cupcakes she had brought for us.  What a sweet and considerate elf.  We were so happy to see her.  We were overjoyed!  The next morning, as usual she was sitting in a pot above the fireplace.

What we didn’t know is maybe we were too good of hosts.  Jingles had apparently become very comfortable with us this year.  As we all slept in our beds, our house became Jingles playground.  On the third night Jingles made herself a marshmallow & sprinkles bath with my trifle dish and tea lights.  Yes, she was cute as a button.

jingles elf on the shelf But, do you think she cleaned up her mess?  No, she did not.  It was funny, so we decided it was okay we would clean up the mess for her.

The next morning we discovered she had sneaked into the kids room while they were sleeping, took their My Little Ponies, and pretended she was Santa and they were her reindeer.  Oh my…

jinglesApparently, our little elf is a silly and playful elf.  She made a sleigh out of the bananas on our kitchen sink and a bowl she had also commandeered from the kids’ room.  We had no idea she was so mischievous.

This morning was an even bigger mess. She found painter’s tape in Bob’s supplies, scissors from my studio, and scaled our kitchen cabinet.  As best we can tell, she used the ponies to get herself high enough to throw the twine (that she had previously used to tie the ponies together) over the cabinet knob, and climb up.  Apparently, she was happy with the view, and taped herself there.

Elf on the Shelfnaughty elfThat face looks so innocent, but we should have guessed from that grin she had a little mischief lurking inside.  We can hardly wait to see where she will turn up next…I think.

If you have an Elf on the Shelf here is a website with some great ideas of what to expect from them, click here 😉 .

On another note, tonight is my “Joy of Christmas” Card Workshop on Ustream at 6:30pm (EST).  I hope you can join me!  CLICK HERE TO GO TO MY USTREAM CHANNEL.

How to make homemade envelopes for your Christmas cards

I had the privilege to spend the weekend with some of the most amazing ladies!  We got together, and spent the day making Christmas cards in my new little studio space.  Their cards, of course, were beautiful.  I had so much fun, and realized how much I miss my girlfriend time.  I am still over the moon excited about seeing my friends!!

Christmas card workshopI only have to 2 Christmas card kits left in my store, click here to take a look.  The tags in the kit have been discontinued, so these are the very last kits…there will be no more :( .  The Ustream Workshop for this kit will be Monday, December 1st at 6:30pm (EST).  I hope you can join me as I make the cards, and will be available for chat.  The show will be recorded, so no worries if you can not make it.

Since all of the kits have been shipped and received, I thought I would give you a little video on how to make the envelopes if you are excited about getting started.  This is an old YouTube video where I was talking about how to use the Scor-pal.  In the beginning I talk a little about the tool, but quickly get to how to make the envelopes.  It only takes a few minutes.

If you missed the measurements, cut your paper to 10 3/4″ x 6 3/4″.  With your paper vertical, score each end at 1/2″.  Turn your paper horizontally, and score at 3″ and 7 1/2″.  Round your corners, and done!  Easy peasy, right?!  It is quicker using a scoring board to make the envelopes, but you do not have to have a scoring board.  You can move your blade out of the way in your trimmer, and use your trimmer and bone folder to make the scorelines.  Happy envelope making!!

Christmas Card Class Kit & UStream Announcement!!!! And, Artful Blogging news!

That’s right, I’m baaaack!  I am so excited I can barely contain myself!  I have designed the most delicious Christmas card kit, and will be doing a UStream workshop.  I am super excited (in case you couldn’t tell) about this kit for several reasons.  During the Christmas season us cardmakers want to mass produce cards, so I kept the design simple.  I think anyone can follow the directions in this kit (and you have the live UStream with chat to fall back on if needed). I picked the tags for the front because they are not all “Christmas.”  We all have friends that celebrate the seasons, so we can respect them.  Also, we don’t want to have to worry about extra postage or whether our cards will make it through the mail in one piece, so I designed cards that have dimension but not bulk.  I have done that by using paper layering, ribbons, and simple flowers with small pearls.  I’ll even show you how to make glittery banners from scratch, so easy you won’t believe it, but you will get the handmade card experience.

This card kit is BIG!  I have included enough materials for you to make 14+ cards and 14 envelopes, so if you make a booboo creating the 12 cards I have designed for you, no worries!  All the patterned cardstock in the kit is double-sided, so you have even more options if you are a “off the farm” kinda person.

christmas card workshopHere is a look at the 12 cards in the kit.  You will have written step-by-step instructions with color photos.  The UStream Workshop will be Monday, December 1st at 6:30pm EST.  It is free to everyone!

christmascardworkshop-1-6Who would not love getting one of these handmade cards in the mail?  Even the envelopes are handmade!  That says love!

christmascardworkshop-1-5Now you do have 2 options.  The first kit is for blank cards.  If you already have stamps you would like to use on the inside, or prefer a handwritten note, this is the kit for you.  CLICK HERE TO TAKE A LOOK IN THE STORE or Order

christmascardworkshop-1-7If you want the whole kit and caboodle, so to speak, then option 2 might be just what you need.  It contains a gorgeous stamp set with sentiments to use on the inside of the card.  Not to mention, you can use it for years to come.  It’s that awesome!  CLICK HERE TO TAKE A LOOK IN THE STORE or Order

Despite which one you pick, they are, unfortunately, limited.  The manufacturer has discontinued the tags in the kit (before Halloween even…they are that cool).  So, once they are gone my friends, they are gone.  My local friends, expect an email from me soon. 😉

In other exciting news, I have an excerpt from my blog published in the current issue (released November 1st) of Artful Blogging magazine under the Blogger Buzz section.  What an honor, again!!!  It was a shout out about having my article and work published in the Artful Blogging Autumn 2014 issue…an 8 page spread…okay, I’ll stop tooting my horn now.  Thank you guys so much for all of your love and support.  You have made it possible for me to be here, and keep me going!  Love ya!
