Vintage Bird Mini Album

I made this cute little coaster chipboard mini album and thought it would be perfect for putting wallet size photos of the girls in. My hubby, being the genius that he is, said I should take the album apart, add the photos, and hang the birds on our Christmas tree this year like ornaments! Now I'm super exciting about putting up a tree and decorating it shabby chic style!

Spreading Holiday Cheer

Every year I look forward to teaching my Christmas Card Workshop! It's super exciting to load up the ipod with Christmas classics, and make hot cocoa with marshmallows and cookies for everyone. We all get in the Christmas spirit for marathon cardmaking. I just loves it! Take a look at my "Classes" album for a peek at the good time we had Friday night and Saturday. It Doesn’t Have To Be Complicated…

Sometimes it's fun to just make a simple, easy card. When I'm pressed for time, but I still want to take time out to create something, cards are my fallback. Here's a perfect example of how cardmaking can be quick, easy, and not overly complicated.

I really like this one because it's simple, yet very functional. Who wouldn't love getting a card like this with a photo and maybe a poem tucked away in the pocket? You could also put a gift card in there. Lots of possibilities…

I'm off to finish preparing for my Christmas Card Workshop that's tonight at Memories Galore West, and again tomorrow at Brandermill. Gotta get some hot cocoa, and find those Christmas CD's (because trust me, they don't want me singing!). I'm working on a new mini album kit for my shop, so stay tuned for that announcement, hopefully next week. Also, I'm planning my first Ustream show this month, so come back soon and check the blog for an update (or Facebook). XO

“Story of Our Lives” Mixed Media Album

When I create something, whether it's a card, mini album, or canvas, when I'm done it feels good to stand back and say, "That's me!" I pour myself into my work, and it feels good to feel like I have captured who I am, and what I love, in a piece. Hopefully, if you are an artist, you can identify with what I'm saying (versus thinking, "Melissa's gone off the deep end!" lol). It's gratifying to have an idea, an image, a mere concept, in your head, and have that translate into a tangible form for everyone else to see, and hopefully enjoy.

This album was exactly that, an idea and a concept I had. It turned out just as I had hoped. I love the artist edition bracket-shaped album by Fancy Pants that's full of mixed media pages (canvas, felt, mirrored paper, corrugated paper, etc.), the soft, soothing colors of the papers, the texture of the flowers, layers created by using rub-ons, the ribbon…it's everything I love. I can't wait to put photos in it, and do some journaling.
